How to Retrieve an Engine Code From a 2003 Saturn

    • 1). Plug the OBD II reader into the diagnostic port located under the steering column on the driver side of the vehicle. The plug can only fit into the port in one manner, so you cannot plug it in incorrectly.

    • 2). Turn the ignition to the "Auxiliary" position by turning the key clockwise one position. This position turns on the car's computer and, in turn, powers on the OBD II diagnostic reader.

    • 3). Select "Clear Codes" on your OBD II reader. The reader will flash an alphanumeric code on the screen.

    • 4). Reference the alphanumeric code with the code-deciphering book supplied with your code reader. The book shows you what the code means and gives you advice on what to replace.
