On Thursday nights we usually take the kids to the skating ring for family night.
A couple of weeks ago I mistakenly booked a appointment with a vacuum sales person in exchange for a weekend trip to the beach.
I know, I know these trips are never what they say they are gonna be.
And this was no exception.
The sales person on the phone just wouldn't take no for an answer.
I even told him I was not going to buy a vacuum cleaner from him even if he did come do the demonstration.
He offered the trip so I told him to come on Thursday.
He was right on time with vacuum in hand along with a thousand attachments.
He wanted to know if he could set up in the living room area.
I told him sure that was fine, but to remember I wasn't going to buy a vacuum cleaner from him.
I just happen to have a quad sheepskin rug in the living room and he just happened to choose it to do his demonstration on.
I thought at least my sheepskin rug would get a good cleaning.
He poured some dirt onto the rug and showed me how well his vacuum cleaned it up.
I was unimpressed because my shop-vac could do that.
He then showed me how his vacuum could suck up liquid spills, my shop vac could do that too.
So far he was batting two strikes with one to go.
I guess he didn't realize it but he was done out anyway before he started.
He then gets a big grin on his face and says he is going to show me something that is going to blow my mind and cause me to change my mind about buying his vacuum cleaner.
He gets this huge super bright light out of his case and sets it up to shine down over my sheepskin rug.
He takes my house vacuum cleaner and vacuums the sheepskin rug for a few minutes then asked me if I thought the rug was clean? I told him yes I thought the rug was clean.
Mr vacuum then turns on his super bright light and shows me all the nothing floating in the air.
He took his hand and beat on the rug over and over trying to get some dust stirred up.
He just shook his head and said that there was supposed to be dust floating in the air and the bright light shows the dust particles really well.
Well there was the third strike:) I then explained to him that the rug was a sheepskin rug and the sheepskin fleece has natural oils in it that trap stuff like dust.
I also showed him how I brushed the rug instead of using a vacuum.
He was absolutely amazed.
He said this was the first demonstration he had done where he couldn't get the dust to come out of the carpet or rug.
I guess he didn't think about moving his setup to another part of the room where there was regular carpet.
I imagine he was so amazed by what he had seen that he didn't think about it.
He asked me where I got a rug like that from.
I told him I run a sheepskin business and sell them myself.
I ended up selling him a rug and he is looking at getting some sheepskin seat covers for his car.
Talk about turning a sell around on somebody! So not only did I get my free trip, but I showed someone else the amazing benefits of sheepskin.
OH and by the way the trip was not good.
We got a room in a place that was under construction and we had neighbors that fought all night long.
On top of this we had to go on a 90 min tour of the property and I still forgot to get my free toaster.
